Explore two picturesque islands which spectacularly showcase the ancient Christian heritage and treasures of civilization!
Sicily boasts some of the most impressive and best preserved ancient monuments in the Mediterranean—a testimony to the island's rich and complicated cultural history. Around 52 CE, the Apostle Paul brought Christianity to Sicily when he stopped at Syracuse to preach, en route from Malta to Rome. Christianity did not establish itself until after 200 CE, and Sicilians were martyred in the century to follow.
Cyprus: Ancient Maritime Crossroads
Cyprus has a checkered, tumultuous history and offers an enticing travel destination with a Turkish/Greek bi-cultural identity. Cyprus deserves attention as an oft neglected, strategic centre for the spread of early Christianity. The Book of Acts (11:19) states that Christianity actually reached the island before Barnabas and Paul arrived there on their first missionary journey. Barnabas and Lazarus are buried in Cyprus. Paul's first miracle occurred at the Roman proconsul's chamber in Paphos.
